Description
The Missouri Health Care Association Social Services Designee (SSD) Course, offered in partnership with WeCare, is designed to prepare individuals for a vital role supporting residents in long-term care settings. This fully online program provides the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to work effectively within a Social Services department.
The course focuses on person-centered care, the aging process, and the psychosocial needs of residents. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Social Services Designee, as well as the importance of advocacy, communication, and ethical practice in long-term care environments.
Throughout the program, attendees will learn how to support residents and their families through key processes such as admission, care planning, and discharge. The curriculum also covers resident rights, documentation practices, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and community resources. Additional topics include basic knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid, Adult Protective Services, and other support systems commonly encountered in long-term care.
This flexible online course allows participants to learn at their own pace while building practical skills in communication, organization, and problem-solving—essential for success in a Social Services role.

- Required Textbook can be purchased during registration.
Workshop fee does not include the cost of the required textbook, "Long Term Care for Activity Professionals and Recreational Therapists". This book may be purchased during your registration for this course.
Upon successful completion, attendees will receive a Certificate of Attendance from Missouri Health Care Association.
The course is May 5 - June 1, 2026. It is offered monthly. Students are provided an allotted amount of time to complete each part of the required course work. There are no dedicated days or times that they must be online.
